It's best to get your pictures made during the spring and summer before your senior year when life is a little bit slower. Getting senior photos taken before the fall craziness of school starting and college decision time, makes life so much easier.
In the spring and summer months, it is best to take the photos either in the morning, around 8am, or in the evening around 7:30. We want the photos to be when the sun is low, and portraits look best.
As a Louisville photographer, senior photo sessions are one my most favorite sessions to shoot. They are roughly one hour long in a location I recommend, or a location the senior prefers. For a senior, a photo session can at first be intimidating being the only one in front of the camera, but my job as a is to put them at ease and have fun at their shoot. For example, I can focus on getting the right, natural-looking smile, making sure every hair is in place, and working with them to where they feel comfortable with the camera and posing. And above all, having fun during the session!
One important component of a senior session is the outfit component. What to wear? Being a Louisville senior photographer, I always tell my clients to bring outfits that they feel comfortable in, but also bring offer a variety from casual to dressy so we can have a photo session that achieves different looks. Two or three outfits works well, and I wouldn't do more than three. For girls this may mean a dress they love, a romper or skirt, and finally an outfit with jeans. For boys wearing a sportscoat with a button-down shirt, and then changing to jeans and a sweater, or a favorite T-shirt. These are just examples and completely up to the individual. But bringing a small variety of clothing that not only showcases the senior's style, but also makes them feel comfortable and happy.
