First Communion Photos • Louisville, KY

As a child photographer, First Communion photos are truly one of my favorite traditions.  It started when my oldest daughter made her First Communion 9 years ago, and it was such a precious time of reflection and growth for her.  Commemorating that time with photography to remember all the details that went into First Communion such as family pearls, a special prayer book, a new suit or dress, and fresh flowers.  All of it comes together to make a beautiful day worth remembering, both for the child, and the family.

It's Senior Photo Time in Louisville • Here is One of my Favorite Senior Shoots from Last Year

It's that time of year for rising seniors to book their senior photoshoots.  To kick us off, I wanted to highlight this particular photoshoot with the lovely Sophia who was a dream. Although she doesn't see herself as particularly girly, for example her favorite color is black; she decided to have fun with this shoot and really embrace her feminine side!

Cue the dresses, the frills, and the pink!

Sophia wanted to start off her senior photos with a smart outfit.  In her favorite color, of course.  She paired a black top with jean shorts and black boots.  But the signature piece was the hat, which we definitely took advantage of.  The outfit and her happy personality came together so well for fun senior photography!

Senior Photos are Super Cute with a HAT!

Find a Location that Matches your Style

Location is an important part of deciding where to go for a senior photo session.  Here in Louisville, KY we are fortunate to have many different photography options.  From classic brick and columns, to natural flowery fields, to rustic farms, to urban downtown.  Sophia went for a more classic location, which paired well with this beautiful blue & white frock.

Go with Looks that Make you Feel Beautiful

Sophia's last outfit change for her senior photos was probably our favorite.  A pink, feminine, frilly confection of a dress.  As I wrote earlier, she prefers black, but embraced the pink and had so much fun, as you will see...

Most Importantly with Senior Photos, Have Fun!

Calling all juniors, aka soon-to-be seniors, aka class of 2023!  NOW is the time to book your senior photos!

Senior year will be busy enough, so the spring and summertime prior to your senior year is when it's best to get the senior photo session done and checked off your list. Then you can enjoy your busy senior year and the pictures will be done!

I say it all the time, but photographing high school seniors is one of my favorite kinds of sessions to shoot.  I love focusing on one person, helping them feel at ease in front of the camera, getting their groove, and then capturing their personality. It can at first be intimidating for anyone in front of the camera, but my job as a Louisville senior photographer is to put them at ease and have fun at their shoot. For example, I can focus on getting the right, natural-looking smile, making sure every hair is in place, and working with them to where they feel comfortable with the camera and posing.   And above all, having fun during the session!

How to Dress for your Senior Session

One important component of a senior session is the outfit component. What to wear?  Being a Louisville senior photographer, I always tell my clients to bring outfits that they feel comfortable in, but also bring offer a variety from casual to dressy so we can have a photo session that achieves different looks.  Two or three outfits works well, and I wouldn't do more than three. For girls this may mean a dress they love, a romper or skirt, and finally an outfit with jeans.  For boys wearing a sportscoat with a button-down shirt, and then changing to jeans and a sweater, or a favorite T-shirt.  These are just examples and completely up to the individual.  But bringing a small variety of clothing that not only showcases the senior's style, but also makes them feel comfortable and happy.
